The Carolina Sailing Club Championship Series |
The Championship Series consists of two-day weekends of racing at a combination of Kerr Lake and Jordan Lake. The race weekends are between April and October. Check the calendar for specific dates. Anyone is welcome to bring their boat and race it for a weekend as a first time guest - no invitation is necessary.
This is Club racing at its best! This is the original CSC racing series, and has been going on as long as the club has been in existence (in 2021, the club celebrated its 65th year!). This series is for those who are interested in competing at the Club level, improving their skills and bringing home a championship trophy for their fleet. This series enables you to develop strategies, tactics and skills that will help prepare you for Invitational Regattas. Trophies are awarded at our Annual Banquet at the end of the year.

Summer Cancellation Guidelines
It is highly recommended the PRO have dialog with the Commodore/Vice Commodore and/or experienced skippers before racing day, especially if multiple adverse weather conditions are predicted.
It is highly recommended the PRO have dialog with the Commodore/Vice Commodore and/or experienced skippers before racing day, especially if multiple adverse weather conditions are predicted.
- General Weather Conditions - Sustained winds at least 4 kts sustained (same general direction if low winds predicted and wind blanket the race area) and no more than 20 kts sustained (puffs can be higher). No thunderstorm cells in the race area or approaching on radar. Light rain is OK. Heat Index is OK based on criteria below. Any condition(s) outside of this can result in cancellation of the races the day before or onshore before racing begins. Races should be cancelled before that timeframe if a highly predictable event is forecast such as a hurricane.
- Lightening/Storm cells - If a storm cell (potential for wind gusts) or lightening is approaching the racing area (within 6 miles) racing should be postponed on shore for not less than 30 minutes after the conditions/lightening cease (30 seconds between lightening flash and hearing thunder is about 6 miles). If the storm cell and/or lightening is approaching while competitors are on the water then RC should take all precautions to end racing prematurely and allow at least 30 minutes for competitors to safely dock their boats. If lightening and cells are predicted at 75% or higher then the PRO can cancel races the day before.
- Heat Index - This is a National Weather Service conservative recommendation for outdoor activities and is based on what the temp “feels like” in the shade factoring in temperature AND humidity. It does not account for sun, winds, or human preexisting health conditions. Competitors are expected to wear appropriate clothing, hats, and bring ample beverages to avoid heat exhaustion. Historically, CSC will race in “Caution” and “Extreme Caution” but also in “Danger” if there other favorable weather conditions such as clouds and good wind. Historically, many competitors will simply not race in conditions above 110°F (heat index). The PRO SHOULD CANCEL races if the heat index is “Extreme Danger”.
