Carolina Sailing Club uses SMS text messaging to communicate with members and race participants. This page describes the types of messages we send, how you can stop receiving them, and how your phone number is used.
Message Programs
2026 pilot: this program will be launched via a notice-based approach — members were informed that SMS communication was beginning and given the option to opt out at any time. Beginning with the November 2026 club-year renewal, new contacts will opt in explicitly through a mobile number field on the membership renewal form.
How to Opt Out
Reply STOP to any message at any time to stop receiving messages from that program. You will receive one confirmation message, and no further messages will be sent to that number for that program. Reply HELP for assistance.
Message Frequency & Cost
Message frequency varies based on the race and event schedule. Message and data rates may apply, per your mobile carrier plan. Carolina Sailing Club does not charge for these messages.
How We Use Your Information
Phone numbers are used solely for the purposes described above. We do not sell or share phone numbers with third parties for their own marketing purposes. Message content is limited to club race and event communications.

Message Programs
- Race Day Reminders - Sent to competitors and race committee volunteers who have registered for a specific race through our race registration form and explicitly opted in by checking a consent box on that form. Messages include the race day, competitors meeting time, and first gun time for the specific race the recipient registered for. These messages are tied to a specific event the recipient signed up for and are not sent to anyone who has not registered for that race.
- Club Updates & Event Announcements - Sent only to members who have chosen to receive them, using contact information provided during club membership and dues registration, to share upcoming races and club social events. A person can choose to receive these messages by checking a box on our website when signing up for a race, by checking a box when creating an optional website account, or by texting the word JOIN, START, or SUBSCRIBE to our number. No one is enrolled without taking one of these actions.
