Lake Gaston: Directions to Eaton Ferry Marina
(See photos.)
From Route 1 Northbound:
Follow rte 1 to I-85; get on I-85 (for a very short distance) and
follow the directions below "From I-85 Northbound"
From I-85 Northbound:
The first time you make the trip, please allow an additional 20
minutes to get to Eaton Ferry Marina, as compared to the trip to
Henderson Point.
The easiest way: Exit I-85 at exit 220. Turn left onto US158/US1.
After 8.5 miles, when they split in Norlina, turn right and stay
on 158. From Norlina remain on 158 (for a while it will be 158 Bypass)
for 17.3 miles, until the traffic light in Littleton. At that light,
turn left onto 903. Stay on 903 for 7 miles (through several right
turns) until the marina is on the left, just before you cross the
lake.
Perhaps 7 minutes faster if you don't mess up: If taking
I-85 northbound, exit 223 Manson Drewry Road and make a right. Go
1 mile to 158. You will take 158 and the 158 by pass to just before
Eaton Ferry Road, but 158 does make a few turns so follow-the signs
along with these directions. Make a left onto 158. Take 158 east
4.1 mile to the 158/US1 split. Turn right at the stop light which
has Jack's New & Used tires at the SE corner and go under a
stone bridge. Go 1.2 mile through the next light and take the 158
by-pass. Go 5 miles through the blinking light. Continue to take
158 another 4.3 miles. Notice the service road running parallel
with 158. Just past Dennis Harris Road, there is a sign, South Shore
Next Left, followed by three trailer homes, and an old tobacco farm
home. Turn left at the old migrant home, and make an immediate right
unto the service road. The service road is call Old Macon Highway
on the map. Take the service road 1 mile to Eaton Ferry Road. You
will see a sign on the right for South Shore along with a sign "Lake
Gaston 6 miles". Turn left on Eaton Ferry Road. Go 6 miles.
The Marina is on the left hand side just before the 903 Eaton Ferry
Bridge.
If you miss the tobacco house, you can turn left at the Texaco
in Vaughn, where there is a sign "Lake Gaston, 7 miles. Continue
1 mile back north west, and catch Eaton Ferry Road from the opposite
direction.
If you miss Vaughn, from the map, it looks like you can catch Enterprise
Rd to 903 or catch 903 in Littleton.
From Durham/Chapel Hill:

Lake Jordan:
General:
A map of the lake. Before you go to the
map, note that Ebenezer Church Point is at (2), and Vista Point
is at (8). See the legend on the left - on the map North is to the
right, not at the top of the map (don't blame us, we didn't do it).
(1) Directions to Vista Point
From Raleigh:
Take US 64 West toward Pittsboro. You will cross Jordan Lake about
7 miles before you get to Pittsboro. From the traffic light at Wilsonville
which is right before you cross the lake, go 3.1 miles and as soon
as you have crossed all of the lake, take the first left on Seaforth
Road (state route 1941) - Note this is not the Seaforth launching
area. At 2.0 miles on Seaforth, the road will dead-end into another
road. Take a left, onto North Pea Ridge Road (state route 1700).
Vista Point parking lot will be 1.5 miles after the left turn. The
road will dead-end into the parking lot.
From Pittsboro:
Take US 64 East toward Raleigh. About 5.5 miles from downtown, there
will be a red light at Griffins Crossroads. Take a right onto North
Pea Ridge Road. You will dead end into the Vista Point parking lot
in about 2.25 miles.
From Chapel Hill/Durham:
Take 751 south until you intersect with US 64. Take a right on US
64 West to Wilsonville. From Wilsonville follow Raleigh directions.
A Map of Vista Point. The ticket
booth is not where shown.

From Chapel Hill/Durham:
Take 751 south until you intersect with US 64. Take a right on US
64 West to the traffic light at Wilsonville, which is just before
you cross the lake. At the traffic light turn left onto state road
1008. There will be signs to the park; the park entrance will be
on the right about 2.5 miles after leaving US 64.
A map of Ebenezer Church Point. Before
you go to the map, note that you enter the park on the bottom
right, and the launching area is on the bottom left. Note also that
North is to the right, not at the top of the map. This is directly
from the Park folk - the resolution in their file is not fine enough
to read much of the printing.
